Family Guy is an American animated TV comedy created in 1995 that follows a dysfunctional family, consisting of parents Peter and Lois; their children Meg, Chris, and Stewie; and their dog Brian, in the fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island. The show parodies American pop culture by making current event references and modern cultural figures. Cutaways gags occur frequently in most of the episodes. Seth MacFarlane conceived the idea for the show in 1995 as he was studying animation. By 1998, the show was broadcast through the Fox network. Some of the shows humor focuses on Stewies quest for world domination in addition to self-referential humor about the Fox network where the characters break the fourth wall. The show has also included a series of Road to travel episodes that parody the Road to… films. Family Guy has received much acclaim from fans. Many people perceive the show as an outrageous and funny satire on American family. Family Guy has received 12 Emmy nominations and won 3 of 11 Annie nominations. The show has also received criticism for its profanity, violence, nudity, pop culture emphasis, and likeness to The Simpsons. Additional media that have been released include Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, a DVD special and Family Guy: Live in Vegas, both released in 2005. A spin-off series The Cleveland Show premiered in 2009.
