Guns n Roses is a hard rock band formed in Hollywood, California in 1985. Their name was combined from two bands Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns. The band, consisting mainly of singer Axl Rose, has undergone a range of lineups and controversies since its rise and fall in popularity. From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, Guns n Roses brought rebellion and punk-driven hard rock to the scene.

As a whole, GnR has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The bands debut album Appetite for Destruction, released in 1987, has reached number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over 28 million copies. The album featured three hits, including Sweet Child o Mine on the Billboard Hot 100. The hit Welcome to the Jungle became number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and was named VH1s greatest hard rock of all time.

The 1991 releases Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II are also bestselling albums with a combined excess of 35 million. After fifteen years of working on new material, more controversies, numerous lineup changes, Guns n Roses released their album Chinese Democracy to mixed and positive reviews. The album went platinum and became number three on the Billboard 200.
