Bold and self-driven Ke$ha is a Los-Angeles pop singer-songwriter with an outspoken, upbeat style. Her music is a fusion of dance-pop and spoken-word rapping styles and she cites Madonna and Queen among her influences. Originally, she was born in Los Angeles and lived in Nashville for a while with her songwriter mother, then moved back to L.A. to begin her music career. By 2008, she recorded backup vocals to Lace and Leather for Britney Spears and wrote This Love for The Veronicas. She met songwriter and producer Dr. Luke, who worked with pop star Kelly Clarkson, and impressed him with her demos. In 2009, she received her breakthrough when she lent her vocals to Flo Rida‚Right Round, which would become a number one Hot 100 single. She then signed to RCA and released her debut album Animal in 2010 with collaborations from Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, and Max Martin. Animal was a successful album that topped the Billboard 200 with the help of the number-one single TiK ToK, which reached number one in several countries.
Animal was followed by the EP Cannibal, featuring the single We R Who We R and followed by I Am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance: The Remix Album in 2011.
