New Boyz, made up of Dominic Legacy Thomas and Earl Ben J Benjamin, is an American rap/hip hop and jerkin crew group from California. Their playful and youthful appeal made New York Times call them the Young Teens of Hip Hop. The two members met during their first year of high school and developed a friendship and a taste for rhymes. Benjamin originally wanted to play football, but turned toward music after he saw Dominics rap success. They taught themselves how to make beats for the songs and started performing as the Swagger Boyz. They created a MySpace page to support their first single Colorz. Their hit single Youre a Jerk from their debut album Skinny Jeanz and a Mic appeared in the summer of 2009 and reached the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100. It was the song that gave new national exposure to the jerkin style, a local dance. The song was a crunk jam that quickly became a crossover pop hit. The second single Tie Me Down also appeared in the top 30. In 2010, New Boyz collaborated with Iyaz on Break My Bank, which became number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group released their album Too Cool to Care with music that dealt less with the jerkin style and focused on more diverse styles.
