Hip hop artist Nicki Minaj, known for her outlandish appearances and distinctive rapping style, is the newest female rapper and pop artist in music. Born in Trinidad and raised in Queens, she has developed rapping skills and a way of showing off her curves that many have compared to fellow female rappers Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. Fendi, CEO of Dirty Money Entertainment, found Minaj on her MySpace page. Impressed by her freestyle abilities and her risqué appeal, Fendi set Minaj up on The Come Up, the urban DVD magazine. She showed up in several volumes, including number 11, which would help her meet rapper Lil Wayne. Wayne signed Minaj to his label Young Money and they began a series of mixtapes: Playtime is Over, Sucka Free, and Beam Me Up Scotty. She appeared on T.I.s No Matter What and Cupcakes Taste Like Violence before releasing her own single High as a Kite, featuring Wayne. She made more guest vocal appearances with more artists in 2009, released the singles Your Love, which reached number one on the Hot Rap Songs chat, and Check it Out, then released her debut album Pink Friday in 2010. She became the first female artist on the Annual Hottest MC List for MTV and her album reached number two on Billboard 200 before reaching number one.
