Nickelback is a Canadian rock band created by singer Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and former drummer Brandon Kroeger in 1995. Their music is mostly hard rock and post-grunge, but the band has also included country and pop sounds. The bands name originated from the change that band member Mike would give to his customers at his Starbucks job, regularly saying heres your nickel back. Nickelback is one of the most successful Canadian groups ever, the 11th highest-selling music group in the 2000s, and the bestselling foreign group in the U.S. second to the Beatles.
The band first released the EP Hesher in 1996 and recorded their debut album Curb with the single Fly appearing on both records. Because of their successful releases, Nickelback signed to Roadrunner Records in 1999. Nickelback released The State in 2000 with the top ten rock singles Leader of Men and Breathe. Their 2001 album Silver Side Up featured the bands most successful single How You Remind Me, which became number one on the U.S. and Canadian charts and became the Billboard Hot 100 single of the year for 2002. The bands follow-up albums were The Long Road in 2003, All the Right Reasons in 2005, and Dark Horse in 2008.
