Peter Griffin is the fictional father of the Griffin family on the animated TV comedy Family Guy. Show creator Seth MacFarlane voices the character, which first appeared in a 1998 shot.
MacFarlane created and designed the character himself, who a redesign from the short Larry and Steve.
Peters wife is Lois Pewterschmidt; his children are Chris, Meg, and Stewie; and his dog is Brian. He is Catholic with a Mexican background who speaks with a distinctive Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island accent. His previous jobs include working as a fisherman, working at the Pawtucket Brewey, and working at a toy factory. He is known for fighting with Ernie the Giant Chicken in scenes that parody action film scenes.
Peter has appeared in various Family Guy products like t-shirts, toys, and video games and has crossed over into other shows like South Park and The Simpsons. Critics have given Peter mixed reviews with many comparing him to Homer Simpson.
In a skit titled You Have AIDS, Peter sings and dances around a person who has advanced AIDS. Several protests from AIDS groups have taken place as a result.
