Pink started out with an image of being just another teen pop act in the late 1990s but was able to quickly change that with her interesting musical combination of pop lyrics and powerful, rock-influenced vocals. Born in Pennsylvania, Pink got her nickname when she was a little girl, many years before she dyed her hair with the color. She was born to a musical family and was already a part of the Philadelphia club scene as a dancer and then as a background vocalist when she turned 13. Later on, she started writing songs and was invited by a local DJ to sing one song on stage weekly. Pink was then discovered an MCA Records executive and was asked to audition for Basic Instinct, an R&B group.
