]]>In the beginning they were known as The Pale Ones, and later Meld. Today we know them as Slipknot – the famous band from Des Moines, Iowa. Over the years there have been many changes in the lineup, finally settling on 8 people. After the death of Paul Gray, Shawn Crahan is now the only founding member still in the band. Another member, Corey Taylor, is also working on a full album with his other band Stone Sour. With a tour lined up for June of 2012 in the U.S., a lot of Slipknot fans (hardcore fans are typically referred to as ‘maggots’) are excited to see them back in the US – They have been in Eurpoe for a year.
Slipknot Live
One of the reasons Slipknot was so successful early on was because they often performed extreme stunts – like 30 foot stage dives or setting themselves on fire . To this day they use elevated stage areas and very high powered pyrotechnics along with other neat tricks. Most fans love the high energy and chaos you get at just about every Slipknot show.
My Favorite Slipknot Tracks
With 5 albums, if you include the demo Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., there are so many favorite tracks I could name. I tried to condense my favorites into a top 5 list, but when I realized that was too hard I did 10 instead. As a teenager I used to listen to these hard rock songs all the time – but now I only listen occasionally. I tried to include all the albums on the list, but I never really got into the demo track to give it a good listen.
1 Wait and Bleed
2 Spit It Out
3 Duality
4 Vermillion
5 Before I forget
6 Disasterpiece
7 The Nameless
8 Psychosocial
9 People=Shit
10 Pulse of the Maggots
Album Number Five
There are many rumors of a new album in the making, but without the support of Corey Taylor it is going to be very difficult for the band. Slipknot has proven to have a good ability to adapt to new and changing members constantly so maybe it won’t be a problem. One of the member stated that about 17 songs were already written for the album, but Corey conflicted that statement saying that no songs were written as of now. The band seems to want to go ahead without Corey, since he might not want to be a part of the new album anyways.

Since Dubstep went mainstream around 2007, new bands in the genre are popping up all over the country. Benga and Coki “Night” were a hit in the UK charts in 2007, and also Britney Spears’ “Knockout” that year had the unique to Dubstep wobble. Newer 2011 Dubstep favorites include Katy B “On A Mission”, Skream “Shot Yourself In The Foot Again”, and 4 of the songs on Rihanna’s new album, Rated R, are considered Dubstep.
The signature characteristics of Dubstep include wobbles in the bass, rewinding, and not following the typical four-to-the-floor pattern. Lots of Dubstep songs have a slow motion feel, because the percussion will go 71bpm while the sub-bass follows at 142bpm. Kode9, a popular Dubstep artist with a Ph.D. in philosophy, noted while observing people listening to a Dubstep track, “[they] have internalized the double-time rhythm, the track is so empty it makes [the listener] nervous. You almost want to fill in the double time yourself, physically, to compensate”.
The wobbles in the bass are caused by manipulating an extended bass note with a low frequency oscillator in order to manipulate the key parameters of a synthesizer; distortion, volume, and filter cutoff. There is already a sub-genre of Dubstep called Brostep. This was dubbed by the English clubbing scene because of the emphasis on the bass wobbles in certain bands.
Some Dubstep artists are also know for using futuristic sounds, syncopated rhythms, or incorporating tuplets. While other songs include the famous techno “bass drops“. When the track slows to a silence and then is brought back with more intensity than before.
All the sounds come together to make a new and unique dance music. And most people will recommend, the louder the better with this genre. If you want to see some pretty good Dubstep dancing, check out the Les twins via YouTube below.
You may be shocked reading the title above, but is there any truth to it? Yes, there is. Mobile phones have been shown to potentially cause cancer. But how can we be sure?
Several prominent organizations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the World Health Organization (WHO), recently did research on the effects of cell phone radiation and whether it could lead to cancer or not. What the NIH discovered was a 50 minute call on a mobile phone increases the brain glucose metabolism in the area closest to the antenna of the phone. NIH determined the tests inconclusive because they were unsure how the increased levels of glucose metabolism affect people.
In the fine print of your mobile phone’s manual you can find a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). The SAR measures the amount of RF (radio frequency) that is absorbed by the human body. US laws say the SAR must be under 1.6, but in the UK the SAR can be up to 2. The WHO found evidence of increases in glioma and acoustic neuroma brain cancer for people using mobile phones against non-users. As a result in May 2011, WHO labeled mobile phones in the same carcinogenic category as lead, chloroform, and engine exhaust. Uh oh.
Mobile phone companies are doing research of their own pertaining to the radiation emitted, and if it can lead to cancer or other health problems. Most of research conducted by the mobile phone companies show radio waves sent out by cell phones to be completely harmless. The Journal of the American Medical Association claimed that if you are touching your cellphone to your ear while talking, then brain tissue around the radiation area uses 7% more energy. In children the percentages were drastically higher. But, as all the other research, they are unsure what this may cause in the short or long term.
In your cell phone manual you should see a warning in the small print about keeping your phone so many inches away from your ear while in use. It usually says at least 1 or 2 inches , but the safest is a minimum of 3. Some manuals even have a caution that states parents should limit use of cell phones in children under 10 years old.
The main cause of the radiation is your mobile phone connecting to a mobile tower from your phone provider. Radiation occurs more frequently during mobile calls compared to texts. And keep in mind the less service bars you have the harder your phone has to work – which makes the SAR higher, and that means more radiation is being emitted,. The SAR also goes up when you are traveling while talking on the phone, because your cellphone is constantly having to find new towers to connect to when moving. Making the SAR levels spike every time your phone locates and starts using another tower.
Texting, using speaker-phone, or using air tube headsets are some lower radiation alternatives to putting the phone close to your head, but don’t completely eliminate the risk of cancer. Bluetooth equipment is not in the safe use category because wearing it in your ear all day could lead to more exposure than an occasional phone call. Agencies are suggesting not to keep your mobile phone in your pockets or clipped to your pants either.
Now that you are in “the know” about mobile phones emitting radiation that can lead to cancer, please tell your family – especially any relatives with a young child, whose thin skulls allow for deeper radiation penetration into their brain.
]]>There are several ways to send MP3′s to your phone, but for the purpose of this post I’ll just talk about the two methods I prefer.
I am assuming you already have downloaded the MP3 you want to send to your phone. If not, do that now. Then, follow these simple instructions to send your files to your cell via email.
Email is one of my preferred methods because it is free. I should note that using email to send files to your phone is NOT ALWAYS FREE. If you get charged to send/recieve text messages, you will be charged the standard rate (usually .3 or .5 minutes per text message). If you have free text messaging, using email to send to your phone will be completely free. It may be hard for some people to figure out at first, but once you have it down it’s easy as pie.
Step 1) Navigate to the ringtone on your PC
Step 2) Get on your cell, and send a text message to your email address. Just put youremail@provider.com in the “TO” box.
Step 3) Login to your email, and open the text message you sent yourself.
Step 4) Attach your MP3 to the email (I would recommend no longer than 400KB, which is around 30 seconds of high quality audio), and hit send. You may have to hit send twice.
Step 5) Get back on your cellphone, and view your text message that you sent from your email address.
Step 6) Listen to the the MP3 you sent yourself while on your cellphone. Is it playing clearly? If so, then it has been sent correctly. Now you need to save the MP3 to your phone, and then set it as a ringtone.
I’d recommend having a different ringtone for each of your 10 most often talked to contacts.
If your having trouble still, see our Support Forums.
This method is my #1 preferred method. USB cables for phones aren’t free – but they are cheap. You can settle for the cheaper ones, as they work just as well as the more expensive ones. USB cables are essential because they allow you to send any files between your PC and phone, quickly and easily. You can send MP3′s, WAV’s, M4R’s, Wallpapers, Games, Ringtones, among other things.
So now for the simple walkthrough for using a USB cable to send MP#’s to your cell.
Step 1) Plug your USB cable into your PC, and your phone.
Step 2) Verify you have a connection by navigating to “My Computer”, and locating your cellphone.
Step 3) Open your cellphone from ‘My Computer’, then proceed to find the location you want your MP3 to go. If you want a ringtone, then find the “Ringtones” folder.
Step 4)
a) If your Mp3 is on your desktop and you want to set it as a ringtone, simply drag it into the “Ringtones” folder. Done!
b) If your MP3 is in a folder, open the folder, find the mp3, and then drag it to your ‘Ringtones’ folder. All finished!
And thats that! If you have any questions, feel free to look around our Support Forums for an answer. If you can’t find an answer, please start a new thread and one of our ringtone doctors will get back with you shortly.

]]>The days of drag monotonous ringtones are gone. With the power of transferring and downloading provided on mobile phones and audio players too, ringtones have become snazzier. The latest on the block are video ringtones. What are they? Well, rather than playing audio tracks when people call you, your phone can play video tracks. Most cell phones will allow you to set particular videos for particular contacts or a general video for all of them.
A video ringtone is not too tough to make or download. If the mobile phone already has a video recorded, you can take videos of your friends and use them as video ringtones when they call. Want to add music in the background? Transfer them onto the computer, add a track on any moviemaker software and transfer it back to your phone. These days, there are websites too that specifically provide free video ringtones for download. So when someone calls you, you can catch a glimpse of your favourite music video before you take you call.
Video ringtones are not limited to music videos. A lot of people also love watching their own home videos, cartoon clips, sports moments and film scenes as their video ringtones as well. And as per statistics, the life of a video ringtone is shorter than that of an audio counterpart. So most people are always looking for a change, which is good news for people developing video ringtones.
Though a lot of simple mobile phones are also providing video ringtone feature, the concept is best seen and utilised on high end phones like Blacberry, iPhone and generally ones with great sound quality, a good memory and a high resolution screen. But on the hind side, video ringtones take up quite a bit of space and drains the battery quicker than regular ringtones. So, if you want a longer battery life, it is best to stick to the usual audio ringtones or get a spare battery to go with it.
While most phone phones only accept 3gp format for videos, which makes the media files compact and perfect for mobile viewing, things are quickly changing. High end mobile phones do allow .avi formats to play on their phones. With more and more media players going in for mobile players, the range will definitely broaden soon. Converting a video from .avi to 3gp is not too tough. While there are free converters available online, if you are a regular converter you can download one of the many free software applications as well.
A word of advice: it is best to create your own video ringtone than downloading it. Why? Because when you download a video ringtone, there are chances you are downloading a virus/spyware with it which can harm your mobile phone. It is best that you either record your own movies and use them or get a DVD, do the editing on your computer and then transfer them on your mobile phone. Spyware and virus protection is not as advanced yet and though video ringtones can be really attractive, you don’t want your phone to be infected.
