George strait, a country singer who emerged during the early 1980s, was able to stay close to the traditionally country genre unlike the other country singers of the decade. Mixing honky tonk with Western swing traditions, he did not reinvent the genres. Rather, revived them for the new decade. As a result, he created a wave of some neo-traditionalist singers including Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Garth Brooks, Clint Black and Alan Jackson.
