The Maine was formed in Phoenix, Arizona back in 2007 with the band members still attending high school. They used the 1990s radio rock bands as their musical inspiration and influence to create a generic yet infectious pop-punk sound. The group consists of John O'Callaghan on vocals, Jared Monaco and Kennedy Brock on guitars, Garrett Nickelsen on bass and Pat Kirch on drums. They released The Way We Talk, a five-song concept EP in 2007 and Can't Stop Won't Stop, their debut album in 2008.
